ABOUT WASHINGTON PARK

The Washington Park community is well noted for its historic founding during the late nineteenth century on Chicago ’s South Side. Seven miles south of the Loop, it takes its name from the recreational area situated along the eastern border of the community, stretching from 51st to 60th Streets along Cottage Grove Avenue . Washington Park remains an important public amusement space for South Side Chicagoans. Housing one of the largest parks in the city of Chicago, Washington Park was slated to host the Olympic Stadium for opening and closing ceremonies in Chicago. Although the City of Chicago wasn’t selected for the 2016 Summer Olympics – it brought worldwide attention to the community. Now we are hoping to see the Obama Presidential Center built just minutes away in Jackson Park.
